The NEET (UG) 2026 examination will be conducted on May 3, 2026, and the test will be held in a single shift from 2 pm to 5 pm
The notification of NEET UG 2026 has been released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the official website for the application is neet.nta.nic.in. This year, the NTA has introduced key changes to its application process and has tightened the norms around identity verification measures. The examination scheme and date are quite similar to previous years, but the registrations have been changed significantly. For instance, Aadhaar-based eKYC and mandatory live photograph capture have been added to prevent impersonation and duplicate applications.

NEET UG 2026: Aadhaar based eKYC

-This year, the greatest change is the addition of Aadhaar-based eKYC for identity authentication. Applicants must ensure their Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active and has consistent network connectivity to complete this step.

- For the first time, students applying to NEET will be identified electronically using the Aadhaar system during the application process.

-The idea is to authenticate the application process by matching it to a verified Aadhaar identity. This will put an end to problems of impersonation and duplication that have hampered the conduct of examinations and tests on a massive scale.

-The NTA has advised candidates to verify their mobile network coverage beforehand to avoid disruptions during the verification process.

-"Ensure your Aadhaar details are accurate and accessible at the time of application": This is the message to the students.

NEET UG 2026: Live photo capture

-Another significant change is that a live photograph will be captured during the application filing. This means rather than uploading a pre-clicked image, candidates would have to allow the system to capture their photograph in real time.

- Candidates should prepare to have a functional webcam or use a smartphone by scanning a QR code provided on the application portal.

-Guidelines specify that the face should occupy roughly 80% of the frame, without accessories like caps, glasses, or goggles. The NTA’s message is clear: no blurred images, no outdated photos, and no casual uploads.

-The system will automatically match the live captured photo with the Aadhaar image. If any mismatch is detected, the candidate must upload a valid supporting certificate explaining the change.

NEET UG 2026: City choice and language allocation

-The choice of examination city and question paper medium will now be directly influenced by the current and permanent addresses furnished in the application form.

-The NEET UG 2026 exam will be conducted in 13 languages: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

NEET UG 2026: Documents upload requirement

As part of the standard process, candidates are required to upload scanned copies of a recent photograph, signature, and valid address proof. These documents, along with the newly captured live photo, are necessary to complete the registration.
