NEET UG 2026: NTA releases detailed dress code, biometric verification rules and exam-day guidelines ahead of May 3 exam

The National Testing Agency has released an advisory detailing the dress code for candidates appearing in NEET UG 2026. The exam is scheduled to be held on May 3, 2026, at designated centres across the country.

According to the advisory, candidates are advised to wear light and comfortable clothing on the day of the examination. While full-sleeved outfits and woollen clothes are allowed if necessary. Candidates must arrive early at the centre to complete security checks and frisking procedures without delays.

The guidelines recommend wearing slippers or low-heeled sandals. This is aimed at ensuring faster verification at entry points and minimising waiting time during the checking process.


Candidates are allowed to carry transparent water bottles into the examination hall.

As part of the security protocol, candidates are required to complete biometric verification before entering the examination hall. However, the NTA has stated that no candidate will be denied the opportunity to appear for the exam due to technical issues.

In cases where biometric authentication fails, whether due to hardware malfunctions, poor data quality, connectivity issues with UIDAI, or physical constraints, candidates will still be permitted to enter. They will be required to submit a written undertaking in the format provided at the examination centre.

The agency has clarified that once the examination starts, candidates will not be interrupted for biometric verification. The test will be conducted continuously from 2 PM to 5 PM, with an extended duration until 6 PM for PwD/PwBD candidates, wherever applicable.

With lakhs of students appearing for one of India’s most competitive exams, even rumours of a paper leak can create anxiety. By addressing such speculation in advance and clearly outlining procedures, the NTA aims to ensure a smooth and fair examination process.
