Neelam Kothari shares her healthy morning routine at 56

What does Neelam Kothari's morning look like before the day properly gets going? The actor and jewellery entrepreneur recently gave fans a peek into her morning routine on her YouTube channel, and it is refreshingly straightforward. There are no elaborate wellness rituals or an intimidating list of 20 things to do before breakfast. Instead, Kothari starts her day with a few homemade drinks before sitting down to a protein-rich breakfast.

The 56-year-old, who has appeared in films including Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Ilzaam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, has also become a familiar face on Netflix's Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Through her YouTube videos, she regularly shares snippets of her home life, relationship with husband Samir Soni, jewellery business and everyday routine.

In one of her recent vlogs, she took viewers through her morning, including the drinks she has after waking up and what she eats for breakfast.

Neelam Kothari starts her morning with saffron and lemon water

Kothari said she usually wakes up at around 8.30am and begins her day with a warm drink.

Her morning glass contains warm water, the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt and a few strands of saffron.

She described it as something she has every morning and said she believes it helps her skin look good.

“I drink this every morning,” Kothari said in her vlog.

For her, this drink comes before the usual tea, coffee or breakfast.

Why Neelam Kothari drinks fresh amla juice every morning

Her next morning ritual is a small shot of fresh amla juice. Rather than using packaged amla juice, Kothari said she squeezes the juice from two fresh amlas herself. She explained that she prefers fresh juice because packaged versions can contain preservatives.

“It is amazing for detoxification,” she said, while acknowledging that the drink has a distinctly bitter and sour taste.

Kothari also highlighted amla as a natural source of vitamin C.

Her breakfast is simple and protein-rich

By around 10am, Kothari has her first proper meal of the day.

And there is no elaborate breakfast spread. She opts for an omelette made with two egg whites and one egg yolk.

Kothari said she tries to make this her first meal because it provides protein while being easy for her to digest.

“I try to make sure this is my first meal of the day,” she said.

She added that the omelette is “not only rich in protein but also easy to digest.”

Neelam Kothari's morning routine focuses on simple habits

What stands out about Kothari's routine is how uncomplicated it is.

She starts with her homemade saffron and lemon drink, follows it with fresh amla juice and then has a protein-focused breakfast. There is no complicated morning menu, just a few habits that she says work for her.

Of course, everyone's nutritional needs are different, and what works for one person may not necessarily suit someone else. Amla juice, lemon water and saffron water should not be viewed as a replacement for a balanced diet or as guaranteed “detox” treatments.

Still, Kothari's routine offers a glimpse into the small habits she has incorporated into her mornings.

From Bollywood star to jewellery entrepreneur and YouTube creator

Kothari has been in the entertainment industry for decades, but her recent online presence has given audiences a much more personal look at her life.

Her YouTube videos cover everything from home tours and family life to her jewellery business. She has also spoken openly about her relationship with Soni.

At 56, her latest morning-routine video shows another side of her life, one built around a few familiar rituals, homemade drinks and a breakfast that keeps things pleasingly simple.
