National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday swept the floor of a Shiva Temple in Mayurbhanj's Rairangpur.

She also offered prayers at Rairangpur Jagannath Temple in Odisha's Mayurbhanj and visited a tribal worship place called 'Jahira'.

Droupadi Murmu is a former Governor of Jharkhand and a former Odisha minister.




She hails from a remote village called Baidaposi in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district. A tribal Santhal leader, Murmu fought many hardships to complete her education. She taught at Shri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Rairangpur.

If elected, Murmu will be the first person from a scheduled tribe to ever hold the post of President of India . She also happens to be the first tribal leader to be appointed as governor of a state in India.

The elections for the post of the President of India will be conducted on the July 18 and the results are expected on July 21.
