NBEMS launches AI in Medicine course for doctors; check how to apply, fees, eligibility and more

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has launched a free online course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical education under the government’s Viksit Arogya Bharat programme. The initiative aims to help doctors and medical teachers understand how AI is being applied in healthcare and medical education. The programme is fully online, free of cost, and does not require any technical or coding background. The course is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with a detailed timetable to be shared on the NBEMS course portal.

AI in Medicine course

The course, officially titled Artificial Intelligence in Medical Education, introduces AI concepts in a simple and practical manner. It focuses on understanding AI tools for teaching, learning, and clinical work, rather than replacing doctors. The programme is designed to promote safe, responsible, and ethical use of AI in healthcare.

Format and duration

Offered by NBEMS, which operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the course will run for approximately six months. It includes about 20 live online modules delivered by experts from India and abroad. Sessions are spread out to allow participants to attend alongside their regular work.

Eligibility and fees

The programme is open to postgraduate medical students, NBEMS trainees and alumni, medical faculty from NBEMS-accredited colleges, and other eligible medical professionals. There is no registration or course fee.

Learning outcomes

Participants will learn basic AI concepts, applications of AI in medical education, interpretation of AI-based medical studies, benefits and limitations of AI tools, ethical and legal considerations, patient safety, data privacy, and responsible AI usage. All classes are interactive and conducted online, allowing attendees to join from any location.

Certification

Participants who attend at least 75 per cent of live sessions and complete the online assessment will receive a digital certificate from NBEMS, confirming successful course completion.
