A committee instated by the TN government has reported that Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan didn’t break any surrogacy laws.
An investigation team set by the Tamil Nadu government has decided that Tamil actress Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan haven’t broken any surrogacy law in India. The couple recently became parents of twin boys named, Uyir and Ulagham via surrogacy earlier this month. The general public and netizens raised doubt about its legality, as the surrogacy laws were changed recently in India in January. However, the state government’s team has now given them a clean chit after a proper investigation.

The state government released a public statement yesterday stating that the Ministry of Health has given them a clean chit. Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan got married in June this year. Four months after their wedding, they announced they became proud parents of two children via surrogacy on October 9. The state government decided to investigate whether the couple had followed all the regulations under the revised surrogacy law.

The report stated that Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan had to submit the necessary documents, and it stated that the couple registered their marriage six years ago on March 11, 2016. The documents also confirmed that the surrogate mother is related to Nayanthara and was already married and had a child.The committee report also added that they had followed all the regulations under the Indian surrogacy laws.


As per the report, the oocytes and sperm were collected in August 2020 and the frozen embryos were preserved in a private hospital. The report states that the surrogacy agreement was signed in November 2021. The embryo was implanted in the surrogate’s uterus in March 2022, and the babies were delivered through caesarean section and handed over to the couple on October 9, 2022.
