Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has filed a defamation suit against his former wife, Anjana Pandey and his brother Shamsuddin seeking Rs 100 crore in damages for the harassment and defamation he suffered due to the misleading claims made by them. The lawsuit was presented to the Justice Riyaz Chagla bench, which will hear it on March 30, by attorney Sunil Kumar. The suit seeks an injunction to permanently restrain the two from defaming the actor, and Siddiqui is asking that his brother and former wife be directed to not publish any defamatory content on their social media platforms and to withdraw any defamatory allegations they have made against him.

Siddiqui claims that his brother became dishonest and started cheating and defrauding him after he handed over the credit cards, debit cards, ATM, signed chequebook, bank passwords, email addresses, and everything to him. The suit alleges that Shamasuddin purchased several properties, including a flat on Yari Road, a semi-commercial property, a farmhouse in Shahpur, a place in Buldhana, and a property in Dubai, along with about 14 vehicles, including BMWs, Range Rovers, and Ducatis, in the actor's name but without his knowledge or consent. Siddiqui alleges that when he questioned his brother, he instigated his former wife to file false and frivolous cases against the actor to divert his attention.

This was one autobiography face-off. When the award-winning author published his memoir, ‘Joseph Anton’, in 2012, Padma Lakshmi featured in several of its pages, and not in a flattering light.

From calling her “ambitious in a way that often obliterated feeling” and referring to her “majestic narcissism”, the book, obviously did not sit well with the model-turned-Top Chef host. In 2016, she served up quite a dish about Rushdie in her own memoir, ‘Love, Loss, and What We Ate’. In it, she recalled her years with the author as “a once beautiful meal that ultimately left her with mood poisoning”. She wrote that he once denounced her as a ‘bad investment’ after she rejected his sexual advances.

A new Ian McEwan novel meant a major publishing event, with TV interviews and fancy book launch parties. During one such event in 2014, where McEwan was on stage talking about his book about a family court judge – ‘A Children’s Act’ – his ex-wife, Penny Allen, who was in the crowd, stood up and heckled him.

The couple went through a difficult divorce when an injunction was placed forbidding his ex-wife from speaking about the case.

“When are you going to lift the injunction you have on me and my partner?” she yelled at him, adding he had put out “lies and defamation” about her in the book. What perhaps set Allen off was an interview by McEwan where he suggested that his own personal experience of the courts helped him with the novel.
