A waterfall appears to pour straight out of a rainbow in a stunning video filmed inside a giant cave in Brazil. The footage, shared by the BBC, shows water falling in front of the cave's huge opening, while a colourful ring circles the Sun in the sky. Another rainbow-like arc can be seen below it. The video was filmed at Casa de Pedra cave in Iporanga, in Brazil's Sao Paulo state. The cave is part of Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park, which is known for its forests and large cave systems. The view from inside the cave makes it look as if the water is falling straight from the sky. But the waterfall does not come from a rainbow. The water flows through a natural crack in the rock above the cave entrance and falls towards the river below.

The cave's huge opening makes the scene even more striking. From inside, the falling water lines up with the sky outside, giving the impression that it is pouring out of the colourful scene.

Sunlight also catches the water droplets as they fall, making them sparkle.

What is the ring around the Sun?

The colourful ring around the Sun is called a solar halo. It forms when sunlight passes through tiny ice crystals in high clouds, bending the light to create a circle around the Sun.

It may look like a rainbow, but the two are formed differently. A solar halo is caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere, while rainbows form when sunlight passes through water droplets.

The second rainbow-like arc in the video may be linked to sunlight passing through droplets in the mist around the waterfall. This can split the light into different colours.

Where is Brazil's Casa de Pedra cave?

Casa de Pedra is in Iporanga, in Sao Paulo state, southeastern Brazil. It is known for its enormous entrance, which rises around 170 to 200 metres high.

The cave sits inside Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park, an area popular for its forests, trails and underground caves. Its vast opening offers a view of the forest and sky outside.

In the video, the falling water, sunlight and colourful sky come together to create an unusual sight. It may look as though a waterfall is pouring out of a rainbow, but the effect comes from the way the water and sky line up when viewed from inside the cave.

Stunning video leaves viewers amazed

The video has left viewers amazed, with many expressing wonder at the rare sight and describing it as a glimpse of God's beauty. Some viewers marvelled at how the waterfall appeared to emerge from the rainbow itself, while others were captivated by the colourful sky, the enormous cave entrance and the unusual way the sunlight and falling water came together to create the striking scene.
