The Titanic’s Legend - How did the ship sink?
The RMS Titanic was the biggest ship of its time, a British passenger liner, and considered ‘unsinkable’. The Titanic was owned by the White Star Line and built by The Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland. Its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City in the USA, was much hyped and the rich and famous were aboard this ship.
However, as fate would have it, the Titanic ship hit an iceberg on the night of April 14, 1912, and sank with 2,224 passengers and crew members on board. Out of these, more than 1,500 people died, making it one of the most tragic accidents of all time. The main reason for the loss of so many lives is said to be the lack of enough lifeboats and life-saving material.
National Titanic Remembrance Day
Since the tragedy, April 15 is marked as National Titanic Remembrance Day as a tribute to the lives lost when the Titanic sank.
Titanic Films, Books and Artwork
But the most recent and famous work is director James Cameron's multiple Oscar Award-winning feature film titled Titanic (1997). The tragedy and beautiful love story starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in their now iconic roles.
