Nashik district floods: Godavari crosses danger mark, 210 people shifted to safer areas

The Godavari river crossed the danger mark in Nashik early Friday following water discharge from the Gangapur dam amid heavy rainfall, officials told PTI. The district recorded 116 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Friday, while the intensity of rain reduced later in the day.

The rise in water levels of the Godavari and other rivers led to flooding in several areas, with authorities shifting residents to safer locations and issuing precautionary measures.

Godavari water level rises, temples near Ramkund submerged

Heavy rainfall since Tuesday caused water levels to increase in the Godavari, Kadva, Darna, Girna and Mosam rivers. Several small temples in the Ramkund and Goda Ghat areas were submerged due to the rising waters.


The iconic Dutondya Maruti idol was completely submerged following the increase in the Godavari's water level.

Rainfall in parts of the district remained intense, with Trimbakeshwar receiving 193 mm and Surgana recording 164.5 mm rainfall. The heavy downpour prompted water releases from dams including Palkhed, Haranbari, Nandur Madhmeshwar weir and Gangapur.

Gangapur dam reaches over 98% capacity

The total water storage in Nashik district dams increased to 72.40 per cent, while the Gangapur dam, which supplies water to the entire district, reached 98.26 per cent capacity, officials said.

Water discharge from Gangapur dam stood at 14,407 cusecs, while Darna recorded 19,312 cusecs, Chankapur 18,879 cusecs and Nandur Madhmeshwar Weir 94,497 cusecs.

The district administration urged people living near rivers to remain alert, avoid entering water bodies and move valuables, livestock and other belongings to safer locations.

Rain damages houses, roads and farmland in Nashik

Rain-related incidents caused damage across the district, with 51 trees and four houses collapsing in Nashik city. An old traditional house in the Panchavati area was among the damaged structures.

A tree inside the district collectorate parking area also fell, damaging seven vehicles.

The Saikheda bridge in Niphad taluka was submerged, while floodwaters entered Saikheda and Chandori villages. Shops and goods were shifted to safer locations, and thousands of hectares of farmland in villages including Chatori, Saikheda, Godanagar, Shigve, Chapadgaon, Kothure, Manjargaon and Karanjgaon were affected.

One death reported, hundreds affected by heavy rain

One person, identified as Pundlik Chavan (42), died in Surgana taluka, while four animals also died due to rain-related incidents.

Around 210 people were relocated to safer places. Officials said 27 roads were closed and 42 houses across the district suffered damage due to the rainfall.

Nashik administration reviews situation, Ramkund closed

Nashik Collector Ayush Prasad said the situation remained under control despite heavy rainfall over the past three days, as per a PTI report.

He directed the health department to maintain adequate stocks of medicines to prevent diseases such as dengue and cholera. He also asked the Nashik Municipal Corporation to ensure proper cleanliness measures, filtration and supply of safe drinking water.

The Ramkund area will remain closed for two days, and residents and devotees have been advised to follow instructions issued by the administration.
