Naseeruddin Shah lauds execution of South films, calls it ‘flawless’

Amid the ongoing debate on Hindi vs South cinema, Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah expressed his own views on the hot topic. The actor discussed the various elements that contribute to the box office success of films from the Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Kannada film industries. Shah also praised Southern-born directors for the creativity and inspiration they put into their works.

Further, Shah said despite South Indian films being crass in their taste, the way the movie is executed is always ‘flawless’. In recent years, South Indian films such as KGF, Pushpa: The Rise, Kantara and RRR have gained massive appreciation among the audience and have also surpassed several hit Hindi movies. The box office performance of several Hindi films starring A-list actors like Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan has been poor during the past 12 months. Akshay Kumar's recent release 'Selfiee' failed to bring footfall on the big screens.

During an Interview, the veteran actor revealed why he felt that several movies from the South Indian industry are doing well compared to the Hindi films. The actor said that south Indian films, which are commercial movies made in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and other south Indian languages are creative and imaginative.


He said that even the song picturization in those silly Jeetendra and Sridevi movies was insane—featuring hundreds of matkas (clay pots) in a line—at least it was a novel concept. Meanwhile, Naseeruddin will be next seen in the Zee5 series Taj-Divided By Blood, which will be released on March 03. Shah was last featured in Kuttey, which also featured Radhika Madan, Konkona Sensharma, Tabu, Arjun Kapoor, Kumud Mishra and Shardul Bhardwaj.
