Chhoti Diwali is known by many names in several areas of the country, like Roop Chaudas, Kali Chaudas, Naraka Nivaran Chaturdashi, Narak Chaudas, and Bhoot Chaturdashi.

Naraka Chaturdashi, also known as Chhoti Diwali, is a Hindu festival that falls on the second day of the five-day-long Diwali celebrations. It falls on Krishna Paksha’s fourteenth day in the Hindu month of Kartika. It is believed that Lord Krishna and Satyabhama killed Nakasura on this day.

Significance Of Naraka Chaturdashi
According to the famous legends of Hindu mythology, Narakasura, a mythical demon, tried to invade heaven and earth. He was given a boon to only be killed by the one who gave birth to him. He abducted and tortured many women. Enraged by this, Satyabhama, Krishna’s wife, asked him to kill Narakasura. On the Chaturdashi, Krishna and Satyabhama killed Narakasura.


Naraka Chaturdashi 2022: Puja Vidhi and important rituals

• On Naraka Chaturdashi, Maa Kali, Krishna, Yama, and Hanuman are worshipped.
• Oil, sandalwood, flowers, and coconuts are used as Puja Samagri.
• A special prasad is made of jaggery, sesame seed, rice flakes, sugar, and ghee.
• Abhyang Snan, a holy bath, is performed by devotees on this day because it is believed to wash away sins.
• Devotees have to use til oil as ubtan while performing Abhyang Snan.
• After a bath, people worship Yamraj, chant mantras, and soak black sesame seeds in water.
