Commuters on Namma Metro’s Yellow Line can expect some relief during peak hours with the addition of a fourth rake from Wednesday. Train frequency will now improve to 19 minutes from the earlier 25.

Since operations began on August 11 with just three rakes, the line has seen over 60,000 daily passengers, causing packed coaches and crowding at R V Road station.

The extra rake will also allow weekday services to start earlier, at 6 am instead of 6:30 am, while Sunday and last train timings remain unchanged.

A senior BMRCL official said: "September 10 was the deadline for deploying a fourth train. To meet the mandatory 750 km mainline operations [for service induction], we conducted trial runs on Monday and Tuesday."

The official added: "The fourth train set will ease crowding, especially at R V Road station. However, a 19-minute interval is still quite long. So, we're working to bring in more trains soon."
