N Jagadeesan breaks Virat Kohli's record with fifth straight Vijay Hazare Trophy century

Tamil Nadu cricketer Narayan Jagadeesan has set a new world record. On Monday, he became the first man in List A cricket history to hit five consecutive hundreds. He has broken the records of ex-Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara, Karnataka opener Devdutt Padikkal and South Africa's Alviro Petersen in the process, all of whom have four consecutive centuries in the 50-over format of the game.

In the sixth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, Jagadeesan hit a 79-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. On Monday, Jagadesan was in imperious form, destroying the Arunachal attack with a 250-run partnership with fellow Tamil Nadu opener B Sai Sudarsan.

Jagadeesan has also broken records of ace cricketers for the most hundreds in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy including that of Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Prithvi Shaw, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Kohli had four centuries in the 2008-09 season, leading the batting charts with 534 runs from seven matches at an average of 89.


In his sixth encounter, Jagadeesan has already surpassed the 600-run milestone. On November 23, Tamil Nadu will play Kerala in their last group-stage encounter, allowing Jagadeesan to extend his record-breaking accomplishment.
