Scientists have spotted several mysterious holes on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean and they are asking you to come up with your hypothesis on what they could be.

Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the US said the holes were discovered during a dive by their Okeanos Explorer. They were found at a depth of more than 2.5 kms.

"On Saturday's #Okeanos dive, we saw several sublinear sets of holes in the seafloor. The origin of the holes has scientists stumped. The holes look human made, but the little piles of sediment around them suggest they were excavated by...something," the NOAA said in a recent tweet.

People on Twitter came up with attempts to explain the mysterious phenomenon - some serious, many on the lighter side.

Take special note of the part in the NOAA tweet where they say the holes look man made, but that the pile of sediment around them suggests something else. That's those scientists teasing the science lover in you. If you are ready with your answers, the scientists are listening.
