'My classmates spread false rumours, taunted me': 23-year-old Ayurvedic doctor found dead, reveals shocking reason in suicide note

In a distressing incident, a 23-year-old Ayurvedic doctor allegedly ended her life in Karnataka's Chitradurga district. Dr MU Nikitha allegedly died by suicide in her room on Wednesday afternoon, though the incident came to light only late at night, reports TOI. The young doctor left behind a suicide note in which she revealed the reason for her for taking the extreme step. Dr Nikitha revealed that she was distressed by rumours linking her with a professor at an Ayurvedic medical college from Basava Layout.

A death note was found at the scene, in which Nikitha said she was harassed by college students and the wife of a lecturer, which she said led to her suicide. In the note, she named some students and named the lecturer’s wife as those who harassed her.

Upset over classmates' false rumours

“During my training, I sought advice and information about treatment from a lecturer at the hospital. My classmates spread false rumours about an illicit relationship between us, which was untrue. They taunted me about it. Harassed by my friends, I am taking my own life,” Nikitha wrote. Police registered a case against teacher Raju, his wife Nisha and some students.

Nikhitha M U was a final-year Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) student at Raghavendra Ayurvedic College in Karnataka’. According to a complaint filed by her father, Umashankar G N, a headmaster, Nikhitha shared a cordial relationship with a lecturer at the college, identified as Dr Raju. However, some classmates allegedly spread rumours suggesting an affair between the two.

Umashankar alleged that the repeated taunts and circulation of such claims caused severe humiliation and emotional distress to his daughter. Despite being counselled by her parents to ignore the remarks and focus on her studies, the harassment and distress reportedly continued. Unable to cope with the mental stress, Nikhitha allegedly died by suicide around 11 am on Wednesday. A complaint has been filed, in which Umashankar named the classmates allegedly responsible for his daughter's death and sought legal action against them.
