This marks the beginning of early pre-monsoon activity in the city. Over the past week, some areas in Mumbai have already seen light rain.
According to the five-day district forecast from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai is very likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, with thunderstorms and gusty winds, between 15 and 17 May.
Neighbouring districts like Thane, Raigad, and Palghar are also expected to experience similar weather, showing signs of pre-monsoon changes across the North Konkan region.
As the city prepares for the monsoon season, including clearing drains and checking infrastructure, the upcoming showers may serve as a test of how ready the civic bodies are.
On Wednesday, Mumbai’s temperatures were close to normal. The IMD Colaba observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34°C, while the Santacruz station noted 34.6°C. Minimum temperatures were 27.6°C (Colaba) and 26.3°C (Santacruz).
Since 1 March, the IMD has recorded 61.3 mm of rainfall at Colaba and 38.4 mm at Santacruz.
