Mumbai weather: Orange alert in financial capital due to rains
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, warning of light to moderate spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds of 40–50 kmph over the next three hours. The advisory, issued at 7 am on Tuesday, urges residents to remain cautious as intermittent showers and strong winds are expected across parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Mumbai schools: What is the latest update?

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Thane and Palghar, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds of 50–60 kmph on Wednesday.

Mumbai, meanwhile, remains under a yellow alert, with the weather office predicting heavy rain at isolated places and intermittent winds of similar speeds.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra, while isolated places in the ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra could witness extremely heavy rainfall. The weather agency has warned that intense showers may lead to flash floods, urban waterlogging, landslides and poor visibility, particularly in hilly areas.

Despite the adverse weather forecast, schools and colleges across Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are functioning normally. Neither the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) nor other civic authorities have announced any city-wide school closure or holiday.

However, the Maharashtra government has authorised district collectors and deputy commissioners to take immediate decisions on school closures if weather conditions worsen in specific areas.
