The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next three hours.

According to ANI visuals, several parts of Mumbai witnessed severe waterlogging following heavy rainfall on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, disrupting normal life in some areas.

Palghar schools shut

Following the IMD's red alert for Palghar district, authorities have ordered the closure of all schools as a precautionary measure. Heavy rain has continued to lash Vasai-Virar and several parts of Palghar, IANS reported earlier on Thursday.

Are Mumbai local trains running?

Amid heavy rain and waterlogging, commuters have raised concerns over the functioning of Mumbai's suburban railway network. According to media reports, local trains on all three major routes are running behind schedule.

However, Central Railway's Mumbai Division, in its 6:00 am monsoon update on July 2, said all major suburban routes are operating normally despite the adverse weather conditions.

Amid waterlogging and heavy rain, Spicejet has issued an advisory. "Due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi and Mumbai, flight operations may be affected, leading to possible delays or disruptions in departures, arrivals, and connecting flights. Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport," read the advisory issued by the airline.
