An official said the home department issued a “permanent” order on Tuesday night, granting extended operating hours to entertainment and hospitality establishments.

This order will now remain in force for Christmas Eve (December 24 night), Christmas (December 25 night) and New Year's Eve (December 31 night) in the future, as hotel and restaurant associations make these requests every year. Many a time, approval gets delayed due to administrative paperwork, the official said.

While establishments will be permitted to remain open until 5 am on the specified nights, they must comply with a set of strict terms and conditions, the official said.

As per the guidelines, owners will be required to deploy private security guards both inside and outside their premises to prevent any law and order issues. In the event of any disturbance, the responsibility will rest with the owner or licence holder, he added.

The order further clarifies that the relaxation applies only to the operating hours of the premises. Existing rules governing the use of sound and music systems will continue to remain in force, including all directions issued by the Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court.

According to the order, the extended operating hours apply only to establishments functioning from building premises and enclosed spaces, and not to open venues, the official said.

The home department, headed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has also directed the police to maintain adequate vigil to ensure law and order during New Year’s Eve celebrations, the order added.
