Mumbai biker Riddhi Thakkar, part of 23-rider group, dies after trailer truck rams bike on NH-30 near Chhattisgarh’s Markatola Ghat

A 24-year-old woman biker from Mumbai died after her two-wheeler was hit by a trailer truck on National Highway 30 near Markatola Ghat in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Wednesday morning, as per a TOI report.

Riddhi Thakkar, a resident of Kandivali West, Mumbai, was travelling with a group of around 23 bikers heading towards Bastar. She had joined the group after it left Raipur for Kanker earlier in the day.

Truck crosses into biker's lane

According to police, Thakkar was riding behind the main group along with two other bikers after they crossed Dhamtari. Near Markatola, a trailer truck travelling in the opposite direction crossed into her lane and collided with her two-wheeler.

The impact threw Thakkar off the bike, leaving her critically injured. Fellow riders and local residents rushed to her aid and contacted the police through Dial-112.

Woman declared dead at hospital

Thakkar was initially taken to a primary health centre in Charama. As her condition worsened, she was referred to Dhamtari for further treatment.

Doctors at the Dhamtari facility declared her dead on arrival.

One of the bikers told police that she had been travelling behind the main group with Thakkar and another rider when the accident occurred.

Police search for truck driver

The trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, according to police. Authorities are working to identify and locate the driver and the vehicle while investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Investigators are also expected to examine CCTV footage from areas around the accident site for clues.

Thakkar had travelled from Mumbai to Chhattisgarh on her motorcycle before joining the rest of the group.

Police completed the inquest proceedings and sent her body for post-mortem. Her family in Mumbai was informed of her death and was expected to reach Chhattisgarh for the formalities related to receiving the body and conducting the last rites.
