The famous Mughal Gardens, which are located in Rashtrapati Bhavan, have been renamed Amrit Udyan to commemorate 75 years of India's independence.

The new name replaces the previous one – Mughal Gardens, which was associated with one of India's longest-reigning dynasties.

Owing to its Mughal architecture, these gardens were given the name "Mughal" earlier. According to reports, Lady Hardinge hired British architect Sir Edward Lutyens to create it.

When will Amrit Udyan be open to the general public?

President Droupadi Murmu will finally launch the Amrit Udyan gardens. Visitors are welcome from January 31 to March 2023 in the bright green garden filled with beautiful blooms. However, the garden will be closed for a few days which are:
• Mondays: Because of maintenance
• March 18: Because it is Holi.
• March 28–31: Because the gardens will be accessible to special groups—farmers (on March 28), people with disabilities (on March 29), members of the armed forces, paramilitary groups, and police (on March 30), and self-organised groups of tribal women (on March 31).
