MS Dhoni Provides Update On His IPL 2027 Future
With the player retention deadline for IPL 2027 approaching, legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has offered an update on his plans for the upcoming season. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon, who is the third-most-capped player in IPL history, said he would need to undergo fitness tests before deciding whether he could continue playing for another season.Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, Dhoni was asked about the possibility of featuring in IPL 2027. In response, the former India captain indicated that his participation would depend on his fitness levels and the results of the assessments he undergoes before December.
“I’ll have to go through the tests. You’ll have to give me the report, and then before December, I’ll have to see how strong I am to go to play one more season. If I’m not fit enough, then you’ll have to make sure that you do everything right with me to make sure this old vintage vehicle running well on the road," Dhoni said.
His comments suggest that he has not ruled out playing in IPL 2027 and will evaluate his physical condition before making a final decision. However, the CSK veteran has yet to confirm his participation in the next season.
MS Dhoni Reflects On CSK's Recent IPL Struggles
During the same event, Dhoni also spoke about Chennai Super Kings' performance over the past two seasons, acknowledging that the franchise has faced difficulties in recent years. The former CSK captain stressed that a team's reputation or strength on paper does not necessarily translate into success on the field. According to him, performance on the day matters more, particularly in the shorter format of the game, where the gap between competing teams can be narrow.
“I always felt how good you are on paper hardly matters, how good you are on that particular day is the most important, and the shorter the format, the narrower the margin between the best of teams. And the last two years, we’ve (CSK) struggled, and that’s a fact. There’s no point in shying away from it," Dhoni said.
