The police investigating the alleged leak of the March MPSC Drug Inspector Screening Exam paper are examining how the question paper was accessed, how the leaked material was circulated and whether candidates were asked to pay money to obtain it.

How Did the Alleged Paper Leak Come To Light?

According to a police officer, the case came to light after a Nandurbar resident, Lokesh alias Gaurav Rajendra Patil, who is among the six people arrested, allegedly obtained questions from the exam paper before the March 22 examination.

Investigators suspect that Gaurav was in a relationship with a woman identified as Rutuja Patil, who was preparing for the Drug Inspector examination. Police allege that Gaurav obtained questions from the paper in advance and shared them with Rutuja to help her clear the exam.

The officer said Rutuja subsequently cleared the examination. However, the relationship between the two reportedly ended soon afterwards, following which the situation between them became strained.

Gaurav Allegedly Approached MPSC

Police said Gaurav later approached the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) and informed the commission about the alleged question paper leak.

“The inquiry commission found only one candidate had received the question set and benefited from it,” Raj Tilak Roshan, DCP (crime), said.

Roshan said the questions had been illegally obtained from a question set prepared by experts. Investigators allege that another question paper was subsequently prepared using those leaked questions and circulated among other people.

Six People Arrested In The Case

The property cell of the crime branch, led by inspector Mangesh Desai, has arrested six people in connection with the case.

Those arrested are Lokesh alias Gaurav Rajendra Patil, Vishweshwar Nakate, an assistant cell officer with MPSC; Abhijit Lendve, under secretary, MPSC; Gopal Marathe, assistant cell officer, MPSC; Pravin Patil, director of Kautilya Academy in Nandurbar; and Amrit Patil.

Amrit Patil is the father of Rutuja Patil, the candidate who was allegedly provided with the questions ahead of the examination.

How Was The Paper Allegedly Circulated?

According to the complaint registered by inspector Desai, academy director Pravin Patil allegedly passed a photocopy of the question paper through Mayur Thackeray, who is currently under investigation.

The complaint alleges that the photocopy was handed over to Rutuja's father at Pathardi Phata in Nashik. Police are also examining how the paper moved between the people involved and whether any financial transactions took place during its circulation.
