A Class 12 student was killed in broad daylight inside the Narsinghpur district hospital in Madhya Pradesh on June 27. CCTV footage released on Monday showed the victim, Sandhya Chaudhary, being attacked by her alleged former boyfriend, Abhishek Koshti, while seated outside the Trauma Centre. The incident happened in the presence of several hospital staff and attendants, none of whom intervened, a TOI report stated.

Police arrested the accused within an hour of the crime. The footage has raised concerns about public hospital security and the lack of immediate response from on-site personnel.

Attack captured on CCTV

The CCTV footage showed Koshti approaching Sandhya, speaking to her briefly, and then slashing her throat with a knife. He attempted to injure himself after the attack but fled the hospital on a motorcycle.

A nursing officer who witnessed the incident said Koshti threatened her when she tried to help. "He warned me not to interfere or he would kill me too," she told police.

Victim had come to meet an acquaintance

Sandhya, a resident of Patel Ward in Narsinghpur and daughter of Hiralal Chaudhary, was at the hospital to visit someone admitted to the maternity ward. She was sitting outside room number 22 of the Trauma Centre when the attack happened.

According to police, Koshti had been at the hospital from noon. Around 2:30 pm, he saw Sandhya, spoke to her, and followed her before carrying out the assault.

Family protests, accuses hospital of negligence

After the incident, police and forensic teams reached the spot. Sandhya’s body remained at the location for several hours as part of the investigation. Her family staged a road blockade, demanding immediate action. The protest was called off later that night after senior officials assured them of a full investigation.

Motive linked to social media relationship

Narsinghpur Superintendent of Police Mrigakhi Deka said the accused and the victim had known each other for more than two years. "As per the accused's statement, they had known each other for over two years, beginning with a social media friendship. From January this year, he suspected she was seeing someone else and claimed she was 'cheating on him.' He admitted to planning to kill her and take his own life. He tried to harm himself after the attack but failed."

Hospital security under scanner

At the time of the attack, two security guards were posted outside the Trauma Centre. Despite this, Koshti managed to enter the area, carry out the assault, and flee. The murder has raised serious questions about hospital security and staff preparedness in emergency situations.
