The eight-year-old, a Class II student, suffered severe injuries to her head, waist and shoulder along with heavy blood loss. She was initially admitted to the district hospital and placed on ventilator support before being referred to Bhopal as her condition deteriorated. Doctors described her state as critical.
According to TOI, the mother, a government employee residing in the Malakhedi area, had arrived at the station with her daughter nearly three hours before the incident took place. The two had been living alone following the death of the woman's husband, after which she had secured a compensatory government appointment.

Narmadapuram GRP in-charge Sanjeev Chaukse told TOI that the attack was sudden and deliberate. "When the Tamil Nadu Express approached Platform No. 1 around 7:40 PM, the woman suddenly pushed the child onto the tracks," he said. After being struck, the child remained trapped between the track and the platform as the train passed over her. Once it cleared, bystanders and railway personnel rushed in, pulled her out and rushed her to hospital.
The scene on the platform was one of chaos and distress. Witnesses told TOI that the injured child lay crying in pain as people scrambled to help. Several bystanders claimed that when they attempted to intervene and save the girl, the mother repeatedly asked them not to.

Police have registered a case in the matter. Preliminary investigation has pointed to a possible mental health angle, with officials noting that the woman had been undergoing medical treatment for several years.
Authorities said they were in the process of verifying her treatment history. Family members have been informed and further investigation is underway.
