Monica Dogra talks about coming out as pansexual, recalls being molested as a teenager

Monica Dogra, a well-known musician and actor, was in the headlines when she came out as a pansexual person last year. Recently, she shared the journey of reconciling herself with her sexuality and dealing with the harsh comments she received from people.

She said she kept alternating between being a tomboy and being hyper-feminine while she was growing up. For the most part, she was also "ashamed of her gender", she told Hindustan Times.

The musician-actor further said that it was only five or six years ago that she discovered the term 'pansexual', with everything before that being very black and white. She described her first time kissing a girl, having had an Aha moment while exploring herself. She revealed coming across different verbiages around pansexuality and decided that that's the most real fit for her. She also mentioned that she surprises herself almost all the time by discovering things she finds to be beautiful.


Further, she said that it was due to various events in her life that she could play the character of Peeplika naturally.

Monica described her first experience of being intimate with a girl at a college party. She recalled being drunk at the said party. At the time, she did not feel she had fallen in love with a biological female.

The singer concluded that she suddenly had no idea who she was. She recalled having a brief aha moment when she realised that perhaps she was bisexual. She also stated that she still did not understand what pansexuality was at that time. However, she was aware that she preferred both masculine and feminine individuals. It was six to seven years ago.

Monica claims that her cousins "molested" her.

When talking about her formative years, Monica stated she simply wept and felt as though her independence had ended when her breasts began to appear. She described a traumatic event from her teenage years, recalling that her cousins abused her, and when she was sleeping, a family acquaintance sexually grabbed her. She believes that her tale is simply one of many that are identical.

The former Mrs Monica also disclosed that her ex-husband was sweet, kind, knowledgeable and understanding. Monica revealed that her ex-husband supported her transition after learning about it during their now-divorced marriage. She mentioned that it made her love him even more.

Monica has acted in six full-length movies and five studio albums. She also hosted the music documentary series The Dewarists for a few seasons.
