Mohanlal–Bhadran classic, 'Spadikam', to be re-released in theatres on February 9

Mohanlal, amongst the most revered movie actors of Malayalam cinema, took to Twitter, urging his fans to go watch and enjoy the digitally mastered film “Spadikam.”Mohanlal implored his fans, who took the character Adu Thoma close to their hearts, to watch Spadikam, which comes out with all the technical modifications available in this digital age. The movie is to be re-released in theatres on 9 February 2023, and Mohanlal wishes they lovingly accept Adu Thoma as they did 28 years before.

The movie Spadikam is one of Mohanlal’s highest-grossing films in that period. This movie carried Mohanlal and placed him on a pedestal reserved for the top actors in the history of Malayalam cinema.

The blockbuster “Spadikam” was the atory of a father and son relationship. The part everyone loved was how Mohanlal would straighten out his dhoti and use it like a weapon in street fights. There are plenty of one-liners which people enjoy and remember to this day.


“Spadikam”, when it was released in March 1995, ran for 100 days in theatres to packed crowds. The idea of remastering the movie digitally and re-releasing it was decided on March 2020. This, however, was not to be. Due to the pandemic and having stalled the release for two years, it had been planned to be released for its 25th anniversary. Now it shall be released closer to its 28th anniversary after overcoming the delays of the pandemic.
