Govt weighs emergency steps to protect forex reserves: PM Modi amid West Asia crisis
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged schools and colleges across India to consider shifting to online classes temporarily as the country deals with the economic impact of the ongoing Iran-US conflict and rising crude oil prices.

The Prime Minister made the appeal while inaugurating the Sardardham Hostel complex in Vadodara, Gujarat. The newly opened student facility can accommodate around 2,000 students and includes separate arrangements for boys and girls along with amenities such as a library, dining hall and auditorium.

PM Modi Suggests Covid-Style Online Learning Model

During his address, PM Modi said educational institutions could adopt a Covid-19-style online learning system for the time being in order to reduce fuel consumption and support national economic stability.

He also encouraged companies to revive work-from-home arrangements and hold more virtual meetings and online conferences wherever possible.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come as India faces pressure from rising global oil prices following escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.

Fuel Conservation a Key Focus Amid Global Crisis

Speaking at a BJP rally in Hyderabad earlier, PM Modi stressed the need to conserve fuel and foreign exchange reserves amid uncertainty in global supply chains.

He urged citizens to:
  • Use public transport and metro services
  • Opt for car-pooling when possible
  • Reduce unnecessary petrol and diesel consumption
  • Consider electric vehicles
  • Avoid non-essential foreign travel
  • Postpone gold purchases for the time being

The Prime Minister also advised families to reduce edible oil consumption, stating that it would help both personal health and the country’s economy.

Rising Crude Oil Prices Raise Economic Concerns

Global crude oil prices have surged sharply after fresh tensions in West Asia and the rejection of Iran’s latest peace proposals by US President Donald Trump.

The spike in oil prices has increased concerns over inflation, fuel costs and energy security across several countries, including India.

PM Modi said collective efforts by citizens, businesses and institutions would help India manage the economic challenges created by the ongoing geopolitical situation.
