Modern Love Chennai: Amazon Prime Video announces release date; Here’s all you need to know

On Monday, Prime Video announced that "Modern Love Chennai," the Tamil version of its anthology series "Modern Love," will debut on May 18. This marks the third Indian adaptation of the acclaimed series, created by John Carney and includes "Modern Love Mumbai" in Hindi and "Modern Love Hyderabad" in Tamil.



Bharathiraja, Balaji Sakthivel, Rajumurugan, Krishnakumar Ramakumar, Akshay Sundher, and Thiagarajan Kumararaja, have collaborated to produce "Modern Love Chennai."


According to the producers, this upcoming six-episode anthology features a collection of captivating and distinct love stories set in the city of Chennai that explore relationships, break boundaries, and broaden perspectives.

Following the successful launches of "Modern Love Mumbai" and "Modern Love Hyderabad," Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals at Prime Video, expressed excitement in bringing the third Indian edition of the well-regarded international franchise, "Modern Love," to the platform.

The creator of the series, Kumararaja, who also wrote and directed an episode titled "Ninaivo Oru Paravai," stated that "Modern Love Chennai" presented an intriguing challenge for him because he was not accustomed to working on love stories.

The Tamil version of the "Modern Love" anthology series, "Modern Love Chennai," has six episodes, each with a different director and cast. The first episode, "Lalagunda Bommaigal," is directed by Rajumurugan, while episode two, "Imaigal," is directed by Balaji Sakthivel. The third episode is called "Kaadhal Enbadhu Kannula Heart Irukkura Emoji," and it's directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar, while episode four, "Margazhi," is directed by Akshay Sunder. Bharathiraja directs episode five, "Paravai Kootil Vaazhum Maangal," and the sixth and final episode, "Ninaivo Oru Paravai," is directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, the creator of the series. Each episode features a unique cast, and the music for episodes four through six is composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Kumararaja expressed his pleasure in partnering with Prime Video to create "Modern Love Chennai."
