Mobile recharge new rules: Raghav Chadha shares good news for prepaid users, 30-day plans and voice-SMS only options introduced; check what changes

Raghav Chadha on Sunday, September 27, welcomed the introduction of new prepaid mobile recharge options, saying the changes would give consumers more flexibility. The new regulations include 30-day recharge plans, voice- and SMS-only options, and plans aimed at users who mainly need basic services.

New 30-Day Recharge Plans Introduced

Raghav Chadha said the government has introduced the Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, 2026, which provide prepaid users with additional recharge choices.

Announcing the development in a post on X, Chadha said the new options would help consumers who have raised concerns about limited and inflexible recharge plans.


In his post, Chadha wrote, "The Govt just introduced Telecom Consumer Protection (Thirteenth Amendment) Regulations, 2026."

He added that prepaid users in India will now have:

30-day recharge plans, reducing the need for 13 monthly recharges to 12 in a year

• Voice and SMS-only plans for those who do not need data
• More suitable options for low-budget consumers who primarily need basic voice calls

Raghav Chadha said he had raised the issue in Parliament on March 11, highlighting concerns over the duration and flexibility of prepaid recharge plans.

He pointed out that 28-day recharge plans effectively required consumers to make 13 recharges in a year instead of 12, increasing the frequency with which users had to renew their plans.

He said consumers had also shared concerns with him about the limited choices available in prepaid plans.

"Many of you had shared your concerns with me about limited and inflexible recharge options. I raised this issue in Parliament on 11th March, seeking greater choice and more affordable options for consumers."
