Mithun Manhas, former Delhi captain under whom Virat Kohli debuted, has been named as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Despite never playing an international match for India, Manhas will take charge of the world’s richest cricket board. Mithun Manhas mostly captained the Delhi team when both Delhi stalwarts Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir were busy doing national duty.

The BCCI president does not have a fixed salary. The role falls under the “office-bearer” category, meaning the president receives allowances and perks instead of a standard pay.

Reports say Manhas will get around $1,000 (approximately ₹84,000) per day on overseas tours. Attending domestic meetings can earn him between ₹30,000 and ₹40,000. The board also provides business-class or first-class travel, stays at five-star hotels, and covers expenses related to official duties and travel.

The BCCI president has authority over major decisions in Indian cricket. Whether it is related to team matters or decisions involving the ICC, the BCCI president has special powers. This includes overseeing domestic tournaments and handling key international cricket matters in India.
Who is Mithun Manhas?Born on October 12, 1979, in Jammu and Kashmir, Mithun Manhas made a name in Indian domestic cricket. He was a right-handed batsman, occasional off-spin bowler, and sometimes wicketkeeper. Over an 18-year first-class career, he played 157 matches, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of 46, with 27 centuries and 49 fifties.

Manhas captained Delhi during critical seasons, including when Virat Kohli made his debut. His standout achievement was leading Delhi to the Ranji Trophy title in 2007-08, scoring 921 runs at an average of 57.56.

In the IPL, Manhas played for Delhi Daredevils (2008–2010), Pune Warriors (2011–2013), and Chennai Super Kings (2014).
