A big 5-metre python was cut open in Indonesia's Jambi province to reveal a macabre content: the body of a 50-year-old woman swallowed the day before.

Jahrah, who worked as a rubber tapper, was reported missing by her husband after she failed to return on Sunday after going for work at a rubber plantation.

A search party was out and the next day they came upon a huge python at the plantation with an extended abdomen and suspected something amiss.

They killed and cut open the snake and found the body of the missing woman inside, still almost fully intact, Betara Jambi police chief AKP S Harefa told the local media.

Though such incidents are rare, this is not the first time someone in Indonesia has been swallowed by a python. In 2018, a 54-year-old woman's body was found inside a 7-metre-long python.

FAQs

How do pythons eat their food?
Pythons swallow their food. Very flexible ligaments connect their jaws so they can stretch around large prey—usually, pythons attack by wrapping their body around the prey.

What is a python's eating habit?
Typically, pythons eat animals like rats, pigs, or even cows. But once they reach a specific size, rats don’t seem filling to them because of fewer calories. Pythons can stretch to the size of their prey.
