Surfers in California have been facing unexpected and dangerous encounters while enjoying their sport, all thanks to a mischievous five-year-old sea otter. The otter, named Otter 841, has been engaging in disruptive behavior by forcibly displacing surfers from their boards and even damaging the boards in the process. The motive behind the otter's actions remains unknown.
Otter 841 has been observed using its paws to cause damage to the surfboards. Surfers are now being advised to maintain a safe distance from marine wildlife and are reminded that they enter the water at their own risk.
Joon Lee, a surfer who was attacked by the otter, expressed his apprehension about returning to surfing due to fear of further encounters with the persistent otter.
Considering public safety, wildlife officials have made the decision to capture and relocate Otter 841. But the otter has so far managed to evade California's Department of Fish and Wildlife, which has been working towards its capture.
The government body's move comes in light of the species being an endangered one, with other otters' wellbeing needing to be protected. With only 3,000 of them still there, preserving their population is of utmost importance.
