Guwahati: A 12-year-old boy in Assam's Dhubri district jumped into a river after he was disappointed for not getting new clothes on Durga Puja, officials said on Tuesday.
In a heart-wrenching incident in Assam's Dhubri district, a 12-year-old boy, identified as Suman Roy, studying in the eighth grade at Gaikhowa Gandhigram Middle School, took a drastic step that has left his family and the community in shock. His disappointment over not receiving new clothes for Durga Puja weighed heavily on him, plunging him into a state of despondency. In response to his inner turmoil, Suman made a dramatic decision to jump into the Gadadhar River, a move that astonished those around him.

Concerned local residents swiftly alerted the police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, who immediately launched a rescue operation. Despite their best efforts, the boy remains missing, leaving his family and the community in anguish.

Navin Singh, the Superintendent of Police in Dhubri district, reassured that the search for the missing boy is still ongoing, with hopes of a safe and timely recovery.
