Minecraft movie's first live-action trailer released: Here's all you need to know

Are you a big fan of Minecraft? Then here’s some good news for you: the first trailer of the live-action film adaptation of Minecraft has been released.

The movie is directed by Jared Hess (best known for Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre) and stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge.

Minecraft Movie Plot

Describing the plot, the filmmakers said in a release: "Four misfits—Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers), and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: the bizarre, blocky wonderland that we know and love. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like piglins and zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative—the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world."


The Minecraft live-action movie will be released in theaters in April 2025.

The movie is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide and by Legendary East in China. It will be released exclusively in theaters and IMAX in North America on April 4, 2025, and internationally starting April 2, 2025.
