'MG Windsor EV drives on its own': Ludhiana viral video of locked self-driving car sparks debate, user says ‘more tech, more trouble’

A video showing an MG Windsor electric car apparently moving without its owner inside has gone viral on social media, sparking a debate over how much control drivers should have over increasingly software-driven vehicles. The footage, reportedly recorded in Ludhiana, shows the owner walking alongside the car while repeatedly asking people on the road to move away. He can be heard saying that the car is locked and that he has no control over its movement. The video has attracted widespread attention online, with users questioning what could have caused the vehicle to move in such a manner.

Owner says car was locked

In the viral clip, the MG Windsor can be seen moving while its owner remains outside the vehicle. The man follows the car and warns people nearby to move away, appearing concerned that he cannot stop it. At one point, he is heard telling people that the car is locked and that he has no control over it.




The footage also appears to show the vehicle's front wheel moving in an uncontrolled manner. Smoke can be seen around the front section in some frames, while people nearby attempt to deal with the situation. Several bystanders later comes to rescue and shatterd the glass window to control the EV. The number plate visible in the footage reads PB10HA0345.

Social media users question car technology

The video has triggered a mixed reaction on social media. While some users expressed concern over the apparent malfunction, others questioned whether advanced features in modern cars can create new safety risks when something goes wrong. One user summed up the concern by writing, "the more technology, the more trouble."

Another account focused on accident awareness suggested that the incident could potentially be linked to an auto park assist feature and advised vehicle owners to have the feature switched off at a service centre. However, this remains a social media claim and has not been established as the cause of the incident. Another commenter raised a broader concern, saying that no vehicle feature should come at the expense of human safety.

What might have happened to the MG Windsor?

The exact circumstances behind the incident remain unclear. The viral footage alone does not establish why the vehicle was moving or whether a software, sensor, mechanical or other issue was responsible.
