Met on Instagram, fell in love, got married, then murdered: 27-year-old Jhansi woman found dead under bed, husband suspected

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death at a rented house in Jhansi’s Sipri Bazar area, with police suspecting the involvement of her husband. Shivani, also known as Sudha, was found unconscious beneath a bed at a house near Fauji Tiraha in Awas Vikas Colony on Monday morning. She was rushed to Jhansi Medical College, where doctors declared her dead.

Postmortem Confirms Strangulation



Doctors conducted the postmortem examination and confirmed that Shivani had died from strangulation. Doctors also reported injuries on five areas of her face.

Shivani was originally from the Indergarh area of Datia district in Madhya Pradesh. She had been living in Jhansi with her sister Muskan and brother Aniket for nearly three months.

Family Accuses Husband of Assault
Shivani’s family has alleged that her husband, Yash Thakur, who is from Gwalior, had physically assaulted her on several occasions over minor issues following their marriage.

Police said they were informed on August 31 about a dispute between the couple. According to investigators, Yash allegedly assaulted Shivani before locking the room from outside and leaving the house.

The next morning, Shivani was found unconscious inside the room and was subsequently taken to hospital, where she was declared dead.

Husband Allegedly Fled After Incident

Police suspect that Yash fled following the incident. An FIR was registered after a complaint was filed by Shivani’s family, following which multiple police teams were formed to locate and arrest him.

SP City Preeti Singh said officers reached the house after receiving information about a dispute between the couple. She said Yash was wanted in the case and that police would arrest him soon.

A police team was also sent to Gwalior to locate the accused, but returned without finding him. His family members are also reportedly absconding after locking their residence.

Police Analyse Call Records

CO City Ramveer Singh said police are examining the call detail records (CDRs) of both Yash and Shivani as part of the investigation.

Investigators are also trying to establish the sequence of events leading up to Shivani’s death and determine what happened inside the house.

Accused Allegedly Took Victim’s Phone

Police said Yash worked as a salesman at a garments shop and had a criminal history, with several cases reportedly pending against him.

Investigators said that after allegedly killing Shivani and escaping from Jhansi, Yash also took her mobile phone. Both his phone and Shivani’s phone have reportedly remained switched off since the incident.

Police Probe Sister’s Presence in Adjacent Room

Investigators are also examining how Shivani’s sister, who was reportedly sleeping in the next room when the alleged strangulation took place, did not hear any sound of a struggle or become suspicious.

Police said Yash allegedly went to the sister’s room after midnight, possibly to collect some of his belongings before leaving the house.

The investigation is underway as police continue efforts to trace Yash and establish the circumstances surrounding Shivani’s death.

Shivani was the eldest among four sisters. While her younger sisters Preeti and Neha were married, she also had a younger sister, Muskan, 18, and two brothers, Aniket, 17, and Kapil, 14. Muskan said, “Around two years ago, my elder sister Shivani became friends with Yash Thakur (28), a resident of Gwalior, on social media. They eventually fell in love. Yash worked at a clothing store. After some time, they told their families about their relationship, and our family agreed to the marriage. Shivani married Yash around one-and-a-half years ago.”, Bhaskar English reported.
