Menstrual Cramps shatters Qinwen Zheng's French Open dream, says, wish I can be a man

Qinwen Zheng, the Chinese tennis player, lost to Poland's Iga Swiatek in the French Open as she took a medical timeout in the second set due to extreme menstrual cramps and a leg injury. Everyone was left shocked as they awaited a win from the Chinese player after the tie-breaker opener. But after the medical timeout, the score slipped down to 6-7, 6-0, to 6-2.

During the game's opening set, Qinwen was fine and had no pain or cramps, but as the game moved forward, to strap her injured right leg, the Chinese player took a medical timeout at 3-0 and got her back massaged on the court.


She suffered from menstrual pain and shared that dealing with the leg injury was hard, but not as much as the stomach pain that she suffered. Thus, Qinwen Zheng, ranked 74th in the world, unexpectedly lost to Poland's Iga Swiatek In French Open.

The tennis player also shared that menstrual pain is always torturous during the first day, especially for her and is extremely painful; on top of that, she played sports which made it hard to play during the first day as she's constantly in pain. Qinwen also told the reporters that she wished she could be a man in the court and wouldn't have to suffer from menstrual cramps.

Further, Qinwen also said that playing against Swiatek was fun, but the game could have been more fun if menstrual pain hadn't affected her body badly. The Chinese tennis player couldn't perform her best on the court the way she would've liked. She tried her best to perform well but was happy to have made it to the second week. She wishes that in the future, when she plays a game against Swiatek, she's in perfect shape.
