Two years ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, stepped down as members of the royal family and moved to the United States to lead a more independent life.

The couple were there at the UN headquarters in New York this week, where Harry gave the keynote address at an event to mark Nelson Mandela International Day, held every year on the former South African president's birthday.

A video clip from the event going around on social media has won the duchess a lot of praise for how she responded to a person in need of some help. The incident happened at the UN General Assembly shortly after the meeting was called to order. A woman in a tan jacket seated in the row behind the couple started coughing. Meghan is seen turning around and asking, "water?" before pulling her water bottle out and offering it to her. The woman smilingly accepted it.

As the clip went around, many users on social media praised the duchess for her thoughtful gesture. Some called her the 'people's duchess'. "Meghan is an amazing woman, always showing her big heart, that's why the RF try so hard, here we see that Meghan has a big heart, she is always helping," said a user on YouTube. "Meghan deserves the world and all the love, she is a complete gem," commented another. A few others remarked she knew the cameras were rolling.

In his speech, Prince Harry challenged people everywhere to adopt Nelson Mandela’s spirit of hope in today’s divided world to reclaim democracies and leave a better future for children.

The couple married in May 2018 at London's St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in a lavish ceremony attended by royals and celebrities alike. After leaving the palace, they live in California with their two children.
