Meet the 'moonlighting lecturer' who works as a railway porter to help poor kids

Ch Nageshu Patro, a resident of the Ganjam district of Odisha, works as a guest lecturer at a private college during the day time and by night, he changes into a red shirt with a towel on his shoulders and works as a porter at the railway station.

According to a Times of India report, the 31-year-old Patro has also established a coaching center to teach underprivileged students, where he teaches Hindi and Odia, and also hired other teachers as well.

Patro, a postgraduate in Odia, has been working as a porter since 2011. He lost his job when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, and train travel was halted.


The son of a small-time goat and sheep farmer, stated that he could not take the high school exams in 2006 and went to Surat, Gujarat, in the quest of work.

In Surat, he was employed in a textile plant for two years.

He also worked as a salesman in a mall in Hyderabad before returning home permanently and afterward, he started as a railway porter.

In addition, he passed his Class 12 exams in 2012 through correspondence and went on to complete his graduation and post-graduation at Odisha's Berhampur University.
