Radical Punjab preacher Amritpal Singh, who is on the run in Punjab, recently got married to a non-resident Indian (NRI). As per reports, Singh married Karandeep Kaur around a month ago.

Kaur, 28, has now come under police radar as Singh continues to evade arrest despite about 80,000 cops looking for him in Punjab.

Reportedly, Kaur has a 'chequered' past, was in contact with the separatist organisation Babbar Khalsa, and has also been arranging funds for his husband's organisation - Waris De Punjab. Reportedly, she came under police radar in the year 2020 as well.

Amritpal Singh tied the knot with UK-based Karandeep Kaur on February 10 this year at his native village of Jallupur Khera, near Amritsar. During the wedding, Singh allegedly refused to allow photographers to photograph his wife.

Now police officials think that Amritpal deliberately prevented media persons from clicking pictures of his wife, fearing that this may reveal her links with terror organisations. "We think he feared that his wife could be recognized, which could reveal her past or her links with a terror organization," a police official was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Reportedly, on March 22, senior police officials went to Amritpal's house to question Karandeep Kaur. However neither cops or Amritpal's family confirmed questioning of Kaur. Police officials later said that it was a routine matter.

Punjab Police on Saturday launched an operation against Amritpal Singh and his aides.

The police action came almost three weeks after Amritpal's supporters clashed with uniformed personnel at the Ajnala police station on February 23 on the outskirts of Amritsar, demanding the release of one of Amritpal's close aides, Lovepreet Toofan.

Thousands of his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station, flashing swords and high-calibre firearms and threatening the police with dire consequences if they did not release Lovepreet Toofan, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting and abducting a man.
