Meet Leo Kalyan, the British-Pakistani singer who performed at Sonam Kapoor's baby shower

Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, who are expecting their first child, hosted a baby shower which attended by their close friends, including Sonam's sister Rhea Kapoor. The party was brought to life by London-based singer Leo Kalyan who stole everyone's heart with his renditions of 'Masakali' and 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko'. The singer has taken the internet by storm by singing Bollywood’s iconic numbers.

A famous musician, Kalyan prefers to be addressed as he/she/they. The singer spent his youth between the contrasting worlds of South London and Lahore. Kalyan says he feels much more at ease in London than in Pakistan. A trained Indian classical musician, he loves Bollywood and Western culture.


After his photos were uploaded by mom-to-be Sonam Kapoor, Kalyan drew criticism for wearing a grey mini strappy dress at the event. However, he gave back to the trolls with an Instagram story.

“Hate comments don’t bother me at all. because firstly – some of them are so genuinely funny, I share them with my friends and we laugh endlessly (laughing emoticon) also, hate comments always remind me that just by casually living my life – I’m actually CHALLENGING people and societal norms. which means: I’m doing something right,” he wrote.
