McDonald’s Rajkot video shows rats moving across tables; civic body takes action against the outlet

A video circulating on social media has sparked attention after two rats were seen moving across tables and seating areas inside a McDonald’s Rajkot outlet. The footage, recorded by a customer, shows the rodents roaming around the areas where customers sit and eat.

The McCafe signage and menu visible near the counter can be seen in the video, indicating that the footage was recorded at a McDonald’s restaurant.

Municipal health officer Jayesh Vakani said officials investigated the matter and found that the rats were present in the party section of the restaurant.


“There are two areas at McDonald’s separated by glass partitions. One is the dining area, while the other is used for parties. We verified the video and found that the rats were in the party area, and they may have entered from outside,” Vakani said.

Civic Body Says Hygiene Issue Not Found

According to Vakani, the inspection did not uncover any specific hygiene-related problem at the outlet. However, he emphasised that the restaurant needs to maintain effective pest-control measures to prevent such incidents.

“That is why we collected an administrative charge from them,” Vakani said.

McDonald’s Outlet Charged Rs 3,000

As part of the action, the food department collected samples of toned milk and strawberry fruit crush from Hard Castle Restaurant Pvt Ltd, the company operating the McDonald’s outlet at Greenland Chowk.

The establishment was also charged Rs 3,000. The food samples were collected under the Food Safety and Standards Act and have been sent to a laboratory for testing.

Rajkot Civic Body Inspects 53 Food Establishments

The action against the McDonald’s outlet came during a broader surveillance campaign conducted by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s food department to check food adulteration and unhygienic practices.

During the drive, civic officials inspected 53 food establishments, including restaurants, hostels and canteens. Around 65 kg of stale and inedible food was destroyed.

Officials also issued notices to 18 establishments over violations involving food storage, licences and hygiene. A total of Rs 17,000 was collected as administrative charges during the wider inspection drive.
