Math teacher beaten by students in Jharkhand for giving low marks in practical

Students of a government residential school in Jharkhand's Dumka reportedly thrashed a math teacher and a clerk for giving poor marks in Class 9 practical examination. According to reports, students got angry after the announcement of result in which 11 students out of total 36 failed in the practical examination.

The incident took place at Scheduled Tribe Residential School under Gopikandar police station area of the district.

After the announcement of the results, the students tied the teacher and the clerk to a tree and assaulted them. Maths teacher Kumar Suman is said to have sustained injuries.


The accused students have been expelled after the incident.

As many as 11 students of the school got DD grade, which is considered equivalent to fail, in the class-9 examination, results declared by Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) on Saturday, the police said.

"No FIR has been lodged in the case, as school management did not give any written complaint about the incident. After verification of the incident, I asked the school authority to lodge a complaint but it refused saying that if might spoil the careers of the students," PTI quoted Gopikandar police station in-charge Nityanand Bhokta as saying.

The students reportedly alleged that the teacher gave low marks to them in practical examinations intentionally due to rivalry with other teacher. The victim teacher was earlier headmaster of the school but was later removed for unknown reasons.
