Maruti Suzuki India's much anticipated Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV, the carmaker's first strong-hybrid offering, is all set for launch on September 26. Pre-launch bookings began in late July, and so far, Maruti has received around fifty thousand bookings. The majority of the customers have shown interest in its self-charging and strong-hybrid variants.

The Grand Vitara has been developed jointly with Toyota’s Hyryder. In the same category, Grand Vitara will compete with Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, and MG Astor.

Features and safety technology

The Grand Vitara has six trim versions and it comes with top features like ambient lighting, 360-degree camera, wireless charger, Siri voice compatibility and connected car technology with Google. When it comes to safety, the Grand Vitara is equipped with main features like hill-hold assist, ESP, pressure monitoring system, all-wheel disc brakes and six airbags.


Design and colours

As far as design is concerned, at the front it has a "NEXwave" grille, which has three-element LED DRLs, a raised bonnet and an integrated turn-lamp. Moreover, the intelligent electric hybrid version comes with ‘Fervent Dark Crome’ finish on the grille, while the progressive smart hybrid version has a ‘Rich Chrome’ finish.

The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be available in nine colours, including six monotone and three dual-tone options. Its colour options include NEXA Blue, Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Chestnut Brown, Opulent Red, Arctic White with Black, Splendid Silver with Black and Opulent Red with Black.

Two engine options and AWD

The new Grand Vitara comes with two engine options, like the Toyota Hyryder. It has Maruti Suzuki's 1.5-litre K15C petrol mild-hybrid engine that offers an output of 103 bhp of power and 137 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. With this engine, the Grand Vitara also gets an option of Suzuki’s All-Grip AWD system. In engine, the other offering is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder strong hybrid engine paired to an e-CVT taken from Toyota. This engine produces 116 bhp of power and 122 Nm of torque.

Platform

The SUV is built on the partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota and it is based on the global C platform and will be manufactured at Toyota’s facility near Bengaluru along with Toyota’s Hyryder. It will be available in six variant options – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, Zeta+, and Alpha+. Meanwhile, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be available in four variant options – E, S, G, and V.

All-grip drive system

The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes with Suzuki’s global AllGrip all-wheel drive system. The All-Grip system offers four drive modes, namely Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock. The All-Grip system anticipates slippage based on the road surface, throttle position, steering angle and several other variables.

Expected price

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is likely to be available at a starting price of Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
