A 20-year-old woman has been arrested in Jharkhand’s Garhwa district for allegedly poisoning her husband to death just a month after their wedding, a police officer told PTI on Tuesday.

The woman, identified as Sunita Singh, was taken into custody after her mother-in-law filed a complaint with the local police. She was sent to jail on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

The incident took place in Bahokudar village, under Ranka police station limits, on Sunday evening. The deceased, Budhnath Singh, had married Sunita on May 11.

“Sunita Singh allegedly mixed poison in her husband’s dinner on Sunday evening. He died the same day. A sample of the poison has been preserved and sent for testing,” Ranka Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rohit Ranjan Singh told PTI.

According to police, there were tensions between the couple soon after their marriage.

The SDPO added that Sunita initially blamed her mother-in-law for poisoning her husband. However, she later confessed to the crime during questioning.
