What are dry days?
Dry days refer to specific dates when the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited. On these days, liquor shops remain closed, and restaurants, bars, and premium dining establishments are not permitted to serve alcohol to customers.Dry days in March 2026
There will be five dry days in March 2026, when liquor sales will be banned in observance of important religious or national occasions. These include:- March 4 (Wednesday): Holi
- March 21 (Friday): Eid-ul-Fitr
- March 23 (Monday): Shaheed Diwas (only in Maharashtra)
- March 26 (Friday): Ram Navami
- March 31 (Tuesday): Mahavir Jayanti
Apart from these dates, several major national and religious events are commonly observed as dry days across many states in India. These include Diwali, Holi, Gandhi Jayanti, Ambedkar Jayanti, and Christmas.
In addition, dry days may also be declared during municipal or legislative assembly elections, when authorities impose temporary bans on liquor sales in the concerned state or city.
