Mangesh Yadav

Before Mangesh Yadav ever bowled a ball in professional cricket, his father Ramavadh Yadav was fighting a different battle, one of survival and sacrifice. Working long, exhausting hours as a truck driver, he often spent sleepless nights worrying about how to fund his son’s cricketing ambitions.

According to ANI, the family invested everything they had in nurturing Mangesh’s talent, even when resources were scarce and uncertainty loomed large.

Humble Beginnings in Madhya Pradesh

Hailing from Borgaon in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district, Mangesh grew up playing cricket in modest surroundings, often starting out in a small courtyard at home. His early promise was spotted by his uncle during local tennis-ball tournaments, which set him on a path to pursue professional training.

His journey took a crucial turn when he moved to Delhi to train under coach Phool Chand Sharma, a decision that would shape his future.

Struggles in Delhi: A Test of Grit

Life in Delhi was far from easy. With just Rs 24,000 arranged with great difficulty by his father, Mangesh had to navigate financial hardships almost immediately. At times, he struggled even to afford basic necessities.

Coach Phool Chand Sharma recognised his potential and stepped in, offering him accommodation and support. As quoted by ANI, Sharma said he believed talent should never be limited by financial constraints, allowing Mangesh to stay, train and focus entirely on cricket.

A Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything

Mangesh admitted that there was a brief phase when he lost focus. However, a stern warning from his coach, asking him to pack his bags and leave, became a turning point.

Reflecting on his family’s sacrifices, he returned with renewed determination, realising the weight of expectations and the opportunity he had been given.

The Road to Recognition

Despite consistent performances in local leagues and even making it to the UP U-19 camp, success did not come easy. There were moments of heartbreak, including instances where he travelled for selections only to be told there had been a mistake.

His breakthrough came in the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, where he impressed with 14 wickets in six matches at an average of 12.00, a performance that caught the attention of scouts.

IPL Breakthrough with Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Mangesh’s hard work finally paid off when he earned a contract worth Rs 5.2 crore with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

At the trials, he was tested extensively by Dinesh Karthik, who evaluated his ability to bowl in different match situations, from the powerplay to the death overs. His adaptability and composure stood out, earning him a place in the squad.

He also shared the dressing room with RCB captain Rajat Patidar during his domestic stint, further preparing him for the big stage.

A Dream Realised, A Family’s Pride Restored

For Mangesh, the journey is not just about personal success but about honouring his father’s sacrifices. Once doubted by extended family and society, his father now walks with pride, witnessing his son’s rise.

As reported by ANI, his father expressed emotional satisfaction, saying he never imagined a truck driver would receive such respect.
