Man uses ChatGPT to find jobs matching his salary expectations, experience and location
ChatGPT prompt to search for a job
Explaining his approach in a Reddit post, the user said he configured ChatGPT to search for 10 to 15 new job openings every morning that align with his professional background and career goals. The task prioritises recently posted vacancies and includes direct application links, along with salary ranges wherever the information is available. The user also provides a list of companies he has already applied to, allowing ChatGPT to avoid recommending the same employers repeatedly.

He shared a prompt that other job seekers can adapt to their own requirements:
“Every morning, find 10–15 new job openings that match my background and career goals. Prioritize recently posted positions, include direct application links and salary ranges when available, exclude companies I’ve already applied to, and flag anything that might be outdated or closed.”
The approach is intended to reduce the time spent checking multiple job portals and company career pages for suitable vacancies.

Reddit user reports more phone screens and initial interviews
When another user asked about the effectiveness of his approach, the Redditor said he had noticed a substantial increase in phone-screen calls since implementing the system, which had subsequently led to more initial interviews. Before using the approach, he said, his resumes rarely received meaningful responses from employers. He described most applications as disappearing into a “black hole”, with perhaps 2% receiving automated messages claiming a “better alignment” with the position.
The user attributed the improved results partly to the way he had configured ChatGPT to prepare job applications. Rather than relying solely on automated job searches, he introduced specific guidelines for resume writing to make the documents more relevant to individual vacancies.
How he uses resume-writing guidelines to tailor applications
The Reddit user said one of the safeguards he introduced was downloading Harvard's resume-writing guide and incorporating Google's XYZ bullet format into the process.Google's XYZ approach encourages candidates to describe their achievements by explaining what they accomplished, how they measured it and what they did to achieve the result. This helps turn generic descriptions of responsibilities into more specific, evidence-based resume bullet points.
According to the user, ChatGPT now produces tailored resumes with bullet points he can confidently discuss and defend during interviews. He said the results had been substantially better than those he achieved when writing resumes independently.
His account suggests that the perceived benefit comes not just from using AI to discover vacancies, but also from giving it clear instructions and established resume-writing guidelines to tailor applications to specific roles.
ChatGPT can assist job seekers, but verification remains important
The Reddit user said automating the search process had made job hunting more manageable, particularly given the mental exhaustion associated with repeatedly searching for openings and preparing applications. However, he acknowledged that the system was not flawless. Job seekers still need to verify whether vacancies are active, check the accuracy of job descriptions and salary details, and review their resumes before submitting applications.
Candidates should also ensure that every achievement and skill listed in an AI-assisted resume accurately reflects their experience and can be explained during an interview.
The post offers an example of how job seekers are using AI tools to organise their search and customise applications. While the user reported better results after adopting the approach, his experience is anecdotal and does not establish that the same method will produce similar outcomes for every applicant.
